How can I be saved?
1) RECOGNIZE
Salvation begins with a recognition of who you are and who Jesus is. Romans 3:10 says, “THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO, NOT ONE," And why is this? Because everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious standard. (Rom. 3:23). The punishment for sin is death - eternal death and separation from God:
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rom. 6:23). Jesus is without sin. "He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone." (1 Pet. 2:22).
Jesus did meet God's righteous standard of perfection. Where we fell short, Jesus succeeded. And the punishment that we deserved, Jesus took upon Himself as He hung upon the cross. He is willing to exchange His perfect righteousness for your imperfection. His life for your life.
Before you can receive Jesus, you must recognize your need for Him!
2) REPENT
Once you realize who Jesus is, you must turn to Him! That is what repentance is - turning away from your sin so that you can turn to Jesus. When Jesus first began His public ministry, He began preaching, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” (Matt 4:17).
Jesus wants to set you free from sin! Paul talked about this in Romans 6 when he said, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?" (Rom) 6:1–2.
3) RECEIVE
The Bible makes this abundantly clear: the key to salvation is faith in Jesus Christ. You must receive who He is and what He has done by faith. Take a moment to really think about these passages: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16). "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Eph. 2:8-9).
You can have salvation today by putting your faith in Jesus! "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES ON HIM WILL NOT BE PUT TO SHAME."
